The Club now has over 500 members. This is a fantastic reflection of the popularity of swimming and the opportunities that the Club provides for swimmers of all ages. However, this growth in membership is driving an increase in workload for the small number of volunteers whose commitment and dedication currently ensures the smooth running of the Club.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, you can support the club in several ways:
- Administration
- Fundraising
- Teaching
- Coaching
- Meet Officiating

An appeal for volunteers in our Teaching Section
As you may know, the teaching of our swimming lessons at York City Baths Club is provided on solely on a voluntarily basis by our qualified teachers, assisted by poolside helpers.
Presently, there is a need for additional teaching and lifeguarding provision – if you are:
- a Level 1 or Level 2 swimming teacher
- interested in training to gain these qualifications (age 16 years and over)
- a qualified lifeguard
- interested in being a poolside helper (age 14 years and over)
If you are and can spare any of your valuable time, we would very much like to hear from you!
This includes any swimmers in our squads who may be interested in gaining additional qualifications – many of our swimmers have, and continue to, use their knowledge of stroke technique to make excellent teachers, a skill and qualification which they can take with them as they move on in their education.
Furthermore, do you know anyone outside the club who may be interested in volunteering, or have any useful contacts that the club could explore?
If you are able to help, please contact Chris Turner, YCBC Teaching Coordinator, at ycbc.teachingcoordinator@gmail.com
