Dreaming that you might be the fastest YCBC swimmer in your age group at your favoured stroke or just interested in looking back at our longest standing records – some still held by familiar names.

Why are we doing this?
We haven’t maintained club records at YCBC for quite some time and we feel it is important that we celebrate our successes now, and in the past.
Our club records have been compiled both for general interest and to serve as targets for swimmers as they progress through the squads. We hope you and your swimmer will enjoy taking a peek into the history books of the club and that they will aspire to swim as fast as some of these record holders – and even faster!
What do the records cover?
The CLUB RECORDS have been updated using the Swim England Database, as well as some knowledge that pre-dates/enhances the database records (thanks Caroline and Josh), up to and including April 2025.
- Records are split into Girls and Open/Boys categories.
- They cover all individual swim events.
- Records are maintained for both short and long course swims.
- They cover Age Groups based on Age on Day of Gala – 9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18+ and Overall – This is great news for anyone who suffers from an unfortunate “swim birthday”
- They do not include lead-off legs of Relays or Medleys
How will Records be celebrated?
- Each Quarter, all verified and accepted record claims will be celebrated through an email update to the membership, including our youngest swimmers in the learn to swim program.
- New records within the last 12 months will be automatically highlighted in green on the document
- The CLUB RECORDS will, in time, be added to the YCBC website (but we wanted to get these out to the membership now to review and submit some new claims)
- We will also think about some other ways that we can celebrate, and make more visible, the records in any given Season as we establish the process.
Think you may have beaten a current YCBC record/How to Claim?
- To claim a club record simply check the CURRENT RECORDS , compare to your swims since April 2025 and complete THIS FORM if you think you have broken a record we have published.
- Your time will be checked and verified via Swim England Rankings and then updated on the live CLUB RECORDS DOCUMENT.
- Keep checking your times against the CURRENT RECORDS every time you swim – this is how we will keep the history books alive…….
Rules to claiming a club Record
- Club Records can be claimed by current YCBC Members who have represented YCBC at the gala for which they are claiming the record.
- Any swim for which you are staking a claim must have been at a Swim England Level 1/2/3/4 Gala.
- Races that can be included are those swam as an individual – we are not including lead off legs of relays and medleys
- Swimmers can aim to beat an existing record or, where the record is listed as “NA”, claim a record as the first swimmer in YCBC colours to complete the event in question in the given age group

Some mistakes/accidental exclusions are inevitable as there are 792 combinations of age, gender, stroke and pool length and it has taken quite some time to pull these together. But please, as well as any recent swims since April 2025, please feel free to put in claims for any historical swims that you think have been missed/are wrong and these will be reviewed in line with the process against Swim England Rankings.
