The end of season meet in swimming is seen as the grand finale of the year and the competition in which swimmers arrive in peak physical and mental condition ready to perform their best times. Over the last month during July and August, YCBC swimmers from all Squads have been busy competing at a number of meets. Please see the reports for each competition below.
Rotherham Metro A/B Meet
The Rotherham Metro A/B Graded meet over the weekend of the 14th-15th July in Sheffield acted as the final competition of the season for many of the YCBC swimmers.
The swimmers were in fantastic form over the course of the weekend which resulted in YCBC taking the runner up spot for the Top Club award.
There were a whopping 362 swims over the weekend with 293 recorded PBs which equates to 81% as best times. The swimmers energy levels remained high all weekend through to the final event on Sunday afternoon. This was shown in the results as Sunday was statistically the stronger day of the weekend (84% to 78% on Saturday) which hasn’t happened all season.

British Summer Nationals
Four swimmers from National Squad competed at the British Summer Championships between 24th-29th July in Sheffield. In order to qualify for the British Nationals, the swimmers had to achieve a top 24 ranking in each event during the qualifying window (1st March – 31st May 2018)

Swim England Open Water Festival
Jack Pears-Dorland swum next in the SE Open Water Festival on Monday 30th July at the Rother Valley Country Park near Sheffield. He qualified for the Nationals by winning the Regional event. Jack competed in the 17-18 years age group and swum 5000m (5 x 1000m laps) in a time of 1.09.00 finishing in 24th place.
Swim England National Summer Meet
The final competition of the season for the YCBC swimmers was the Swim England National Summer Meet taking place from 31st July-4th August in Sheffield. Nine swimmers from National Squad qualified with Eight of those entering into the meet. In order to qualify, swimmers had to be in the top 20 English athletes who were outside of the top 24 in Britain from the qualifying window between 1st March and 31st May.

Nationals Summary
Over the two weeks at the Nationals the YCBC swimmers demonstrated some strong early morning heat swims which resulted in an impressive 19 finals from 28 swims (68%) and 10 PBs (33%).
An even more impressive achievement was the swimmers ability to step up under the spotlights and pressure during the afternoon finals. The swimmers converted (finals faster than heats) 17 out of 19 swims (89%) and recorded 15 PBs in the process (79%). 8 of the final swims were converted to podiums (42%) with 4 swims just missing the podium in 4th place.
