The 2015 ASANER Age Group Championships took place over two weekends in June. YCBC was represented by a group of seven swimmers: Ella Fisher (1 swim); Beth Gibbons (4 Swims); Emily Robson (4 swims); Jason Robson (12 swims); Genna Suddes (1 swim); Neola Thorpe (4 swims); and Abi Young (1 swim).
This gala was an opportunity for the Club’s age group swimmers to compete against the best swimmers in the North East. There were some fantastic heat swims, with everyone achieving personal best times.
Four girls reached finals: Beth Gibbons reached the final of the 200m butterfly in the 11/12 years age group, where she finished 10th; Ella Fisher reached the final of the 200m butterfly in the 13 years age group, where she finished 7th; Neola Thorpe reached the final of the 50m butterfly in the 14 years age group, where she finished 9th; and Genna Suddes reached the final of the 100m freestyle in the 14 years age group, where she finished 10th. These were excellent performances from some up and coming young swimmers!
Without doubt, the star swimmer of the competition was YCBC’s Jason Robson. Jason reached the final of all but one of the 12 events he had qualified for and walked away with no less than 8 Gold medals and 1 Bronze medal. Not only that, but, single handed, Jason won the Top Boys Club Trophy for YCBC! A remarkable achievement, unheard of in our Club history!
A big well done to all seven, and good luck for next season.
