York City Baths Club Swimmer, George Hogg, competed as a member of a 33 strong squad of swimmers at the Winter Meet, at John Charles Centre for Sport, hosted by City of Bradford Swimming Club over the weekend of 23rd and 24th November 2013.
George entered and medalled in all of his10 events, earning him 4 Gold; 5 Silver and 1 Bronze, as well as achieving 6 Personal Best times in the boys 13 year age group.
Out of the 192 possible swims, the squad achieved an impressive total of 113 Personal Bests. 10 year old girls Astrid Mawle (Gold and Silver) and Alex Neale achieved a magnificent 6/6 PBs in their entered events and 12 year old Elise Langan, 2/2 PBs(2 Golds). Other swimmers of note included 11 year old Frankie Van Den Heever 7/8 PBs,(3 Golds and a Bronze) who also qualified for the Medley Skins event following her performance in the 200 metres Individual Medley.and Sophie Brown aged 16 years, 5/6 PBs (3 Golds and 2 Silver.
Doing it for the boys were 9 year old Aiden Fothergill registering a fantastic 3/3 PBs (2 Silvers) and 10 year old ‘Pathway’ swimmer Jason Robson, who not only got a PB in his only event but took the Silver medal for his age group. 13 year olds Thomas Watkins-Hargan, 7/8 PBs(Gold and Silver) and Stafford Swainston 7/9 PBs (Gold and 3 Bronze) also put in solid performances, along with Junior Master swimmers, 14 year old Ethan Redmond, 4/5 PBs and 16 year olds Ben Nicholson, 2/3 (Bronze) and Robert Fox 3/4 PBs.
Several members of the squad attempted long distance events for the first time in the competitive arena, and registered ASA recognised times. These included 9 year old girls, Kimberley Thompson (A medal of each colour) and Megan Kirkman (2 Silver), Abigail Young in the 10 year old age group, Ella Fisher, 11 years (Gold, 2 Silver and a Bronze)and Lydia Gill in the 12 year old age group. Whilst 14 year old Sam Whittaker achieved a Spring Yorkshire qualifying time in his first ever competitive 400 metre Individual Medley.
Every York City Baths Club swimmer showed a natural competitive element, and deserve congratulations on representing their club and supporting their team mates.
