Sixteen swimmers from York City Baths Club’s National Squad and two coaches, Mark Sheldrick and Anna Nicholson, are attending a parent inspired and organised training camp at the Crol Centre, Calella, Northern Spain, between Saturday 29th August 2015 and Saturday 5th September 2015. The Crol Centre has a purpose built Olympic standard 50m pool, which the group will use for a series of coaching sessions designed to develop their skills for the coming 2015/2016 swim season.
All the swimmers are self-funded, with the coaches costs being covered by the group collectively. The participants would like to thank everyone who has made a contribution by taking part in events such as number squares and raffles.
Local health and wellbeing provider, Benenden, has also given their support for the trip by underwriting comprehensive travel insurance for all members of the travelling party. In addition, they have kindly supplied shirts for all National Squad swimmers to wear at galas throughout the coming swim season; the Benenden logo will take price of place on the front of these shirts.
Chris Hogg, the principal organiser of the swim camp said:
This camp is a way of enabling our young swimmers to review and set new goals, providing a perfect springboard for the new season. It also helps to strengthen the team bond, fostering positive relationships between swimmers and their coaches.
It is fantastic to have the support of a local organisation like Benenden helping with the trip. Keeping costs down has been crucial for us to ensure that as many swimmers as possible could attend, and their support with the travel insurance and shirt sponsorship has been invaluable.
Nicola Taylor, Communications Co-ordinator at Benenden said:
Sports stars of the future all begin at a grassroots level, but the costs involved can be prohibitive. Therefore we have made a point of working with several grassroots sports teams, supporting them where possible, and this seemed like another great opportunity to encourage participation regardless of cost.
Benenden is proud to support an excellent initiative to give the swimmers the chance to develop their skills and work closely with their teammates. We hope the squad have a great time in Spain!
