The Executive Committee would like to acknowledge Neil Hodgson‘s long term association with York City Baths Club.
Neil was a familiar face to swimmers and parents across the whole spectrum of YCBC’s teaching and coaching community. Like many of the Club’s committed and energetic volunteers, Neil began his association with the Club as a consequence of his children working their way through the swimming ranks. Both his daughters, Helen and Jennifer, were talented swimmers, who competed for the Club with distinction.
For many years, Neil helped to run the teaching section at New Earswick and he continued to be involved in teaching when he eventually took up a coaching role. Most latterly, by teaching Light Greens and leading the teaching section’s Speed Award events.
Over the years as a coach, Neil worked with swimmers from (what are now termed) Development Squad through to National Squad. At the point he decided to leave the Club, Neil was the Lead Coach of County Squad.
Away from poolside, Neil regularly helped to organise social events and was instrumental in facilitating at least one National Squad swim camp overseas.
Neil demonstrated passion and commitment towards YCBC and his knowledge and experience is undoubtedly a loss to the Club. The Executive Committee would like to place on record their sincere thanks for all his efforts over the years. Many swimmers, past and present, have cause to be grateful for Neil’s support. We wish Neil all the best for the future.
