Paris Grenier stood out amongst the squad of 21 YCBC swimmers who competed at the recent Sports Aid Open Meet, at John Charles Centre for Sports, Leeds over the weekend of 12th and 13th April 2014.
Competing in 11 events over both days, Paris achieved 10/11 Long Course (LC) Personal Best Times (PBs), and a massive haul of 9 Gold medals! However, securing her qualifying times for every event she can participate in for her age group at the upcoming North-East Regional championships was a magnificent achievement, worthy of praise and recognition! Well done Paris!
14 year old George Hogg, (5/7 LC PBs), continued his good spell of form by achieving Gold in the 100m breaststroke and Silver in the 100m fly. He narrowly missed medals in the 50m breaststroke and 400m Individual Medley (IM) events, but this disappointment was sweetened by gaining his ASNER qualifying times in the 400m IM and 100m fly.
Medals were awarded to the top 3 swimmers in the combined age categories of 10/11 years, 12/13 years. 14/15 years and 16 years and over, and congratulations go to the following swimmers:
13yrs: Lucy Nicholson, (1/6 LC PBs), 2 x Gold (400m freestyle / 200m fly) and 2 x Bronze medals (400m IM / 200m freestyle); Jack Mayfield, (3/4 LC PBs), Bronze in the 50m fly
14yrs: Carrie Suddes, Silver in the 200m and Bronze in the 100m breaststroke.
15yrs: Charisse Charlton, (3/4 LC PBs) with Bronze in the 50m fly.
16yrs:Sophie Brown, (3/5 LC PBs), Silver in 50m freestyle and 4 x Bronze medals (200m freestyle, 100m & 50m fly and 50m backstroke) and Ellen Suddes, 2 x Gold Medals in the 100m and 200m breaststroke events.
PBs are the standard which every swimmer aims to attain each time they compete, so it is pleasing to report out of 86 swims the squad attained 44 PBs and a further 10 new Long Course times were recorded. Swimmers with a 100% success rate were: Maya Appleyard, Ella Fisher, Toby Mayfield, Ben Nicholson, Alex Scadding and Abigail Young! Well done everyone!
To close, it is great to report the return to competitive swimming of 13yr old Beth Barrett, following a prolonged injury spell. Out of her 3 entered events, Beth recorded 2 PBs. Welcome back Beth!
