York City Baths Club took a squad of 23 swimmers to the Richmond Dales Development Meet on 28th/29th March 2015.
This friendly meet was a great opportunity for some of our newest competitive swimmers to enter a gala for the first time.
Four YCBC swimmers (James Jackson, James Metcalfe, Sophie Mummery and Florence Spenceley) made their competitive debut, and we are proud to say all acquitted themselves superbly. 8 year old Florence Spenceley had a fantastic meet, medalling in each of her three events, achieving a medal of every colour in the process: gold in the 50 breaststroke; silver in the 50 backstroke and bronze in the 50 freestyle. James Jackson also medalled in his first ever gala with a bronze in the 100 Individual Medley. James Metcalfe and Sophie Mummery performed exceptionally well too, with PB s in each of their respective races.
Overall, 14 out of the 23 YCBC swimmers acquired a medal over the weekend (medals were awarded to the top 3 in each age group).
Particular congratulations go to Kimberley Thompson (11) who medalled in both of her events collecting bronzes in both the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Emilia Marwood (10) also enjoyed success, medalling in two of her three events, achieving silvers for both her 50 breaststroke and her 50 backstroke. Other notable achievements were from Scarlett Rooke (10) who gained a total of 4 medals out of her 7 swims, Bethan Morris (13) who won 5 medals out of her 10 swims and Lauren Gaunt-Edwards (9) who medalled in 3 of her 7 events.
Doing it for the boys were Andrew Reed (11) and Aidan Reilly (12) both of whom won medals for 3 out of their 4 swims. Andrew Reed took silver in the 200 freestyle, bronze in the 100 breaststroke and bronze in the 100 backstroke while Aidan Reilly won a medal of each colour for his events.
