Six of YCBCs top swimmers qualified for 17 events in the Swim England Winter National Championships during December at Ponds Forge. This represented a significant increase from last year with one swimmer qualifying in one event at the 2016 competition.
Traditionally the competition has been short course but this year it was held in the long course pool to allow for the event to act as a Commonwealth Games Trials event.
The YCBC swimmers performed strongly with most swimmers improving significantly from the first long course competition of the season at the Winter Regionals in November.
Harry Devlin achieved two finals in the Men’s Breaststroke events. In the 100m Harry qualified for his first ever senior national A final and finished in 9th place. He also finished 3rd in the B Final of the 50 Breaststoke in a personal best time.
Former York City Baths Club swimmer James Wilby who swam at the club until he was 19 won the the Men’s 100 Breaststroke A Final and swam faster than the consideration time for the English Commonwealth Team. The team selection will be announced in January 2018.
