York City Baths Club, Head Coach, Mark Sheldrick, accompanied a squad of 25 up and coming young swimmers at Middlesbrough Amateur Swimming Club’s Christmas Gala, over the weekend of 13th and 14th December 2014.
With medals being awarded to the top 6 in the 9 and10 year age groups and the top 3 in 11 year, 12 year, 13 year, 14 year and 15+ age groups, YCBC is delighted to commend the performances of the following competitors, who attained a medal in each of their entered events.
10 year old Samuel Pickup maintained his excellent vein of form by taking Gold medals in each of his four entered events, including the 400m Individual Medley, swam for the first time in the competitive arena.
9 year old Oliver Creighton overwhelmed the competition with 3 Gold and 3 Silver medals from his 6 events, but more impressively, attained 2 Yorkshire qualifying times (YQTs) for the upcoming Long Course Championships, to be held the weekend commencing 31st January 2015, in the 200m Butterfly and the 200m Individual Medley.
10 year old Kimberley Thompson secured 2 Gold, 2 Silver and a Bronze medal in her entered events, and also acquired YQTs in the 50m Butterfly and 200m Freestyle.
14 year old Jack Pears-Dorland attained 1 Gold, 3 Silver and a Bronze medal, and impressed with 4/5 Personal Best (PB) times and a YQT in the 200m Butterfly in the next age group up, as he has a birthday prior to the Championships.
12 year old Frankie Van Den Heever built on previous gala successes with 3 Silver and 3 Bronze medals, plus YQTs in the 50m, 100m and 400m Freestyle events.
16 year old Alex Riches rounded off his events with a Gold medal and YQT in the 100m Backstroke.
Two YCBC National Squad members also achieved YQTs 400m Freestyle events: 12 year old Ella Fisher smashed the time needed in her event, taking the Gold medal in her age group; and 14 year old Stafford Swainston got his along with a a Bronze medal.
We are also thrilled to report that 9 year old debutant Jacob Hardisty attained YQTs following his swims in the 50m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle events, a phenomenal accomplishment!
