14 Swimmers from YCBC qualified for the 3 Summer National Championship events in Sheffield during late July and early August. The number of qualifiers from York City has almost doubled from the 8 Swimmers who qualified a year ago.

British Summer Championships

The first meet to take place was the British Summer Nationals. In order to qualify for the championships the Swimmers had to be ranked in the Top 24 in Britain. 8 Swimmers qualified and 7 Swimmers entered into the meet.

Jason Robson became the clubs first British National Champion in 7 years since GB International Swimmer James Wilby who achieved this in 2010.

Swim England Open Water Festival

Emily Robson and Jack Pears-Dorland swum next in the SE Open Water Festival at the Rother Valley Country Park near Sheffield. They qualified by achieving top three in the Regional event in June. Emily competed in the 13-14 years age group and swum 1500m (2 x 750m laps) in a best time of 19.59.17 and finished in 17th place. Jack competed in the 17-18 years age group and swum 5000m (5 x 1000m laps) in a best time of 1hr 2 mins 59secs.

Swim England Summer Meet

The final competition to take place was the Swim England Summer Meet. In order to qualify swimmers had to be in the top 20 English athletes who were outside of the top 24 in Britain. York had 9 Swimmers qualify with 6 of those entering into the meet.

The results from the three meets reflect the significant improvement made in the last 12 months. The team qualified for more swims and has converted this into more finals this year compared to last year. The swimmers should be very proud of these achievements in the last season and have inspired the rest of Club to hopefully follow them in their footsteps.
