The weekend of the 9th/10th of May 2015 saw York City Baths Club represented by a strong team of nine Youth and Senior swimmers, supported by two age group swimmers, at the ASANER Youth and Senior Age swimming championships in Sunderland.
Overall, the 11 swimmers participated in a total of 35 heat swims, alongside three relay swims for the age 14-16 year Womens team, achieving a total of 13 finalist or reserve finalist places, and 13 personal best times. The team displayed some fantastic swimming, with total commitment throughout the competition, in spite of missing the medal places. The highest ranked swimmers were Annie Johnson, who gained 5th place in 200m Breaststroke, and Katarina Bonner, placed 5th in 50m Butterfly. The team was managed and encouraged by Head Coach Mark Sheldrick and Regional Squad Coach Anna Nicholson, who provided excellent support during the meet.
A special mention is made to those swimmers who have faced a difficult season; Lucy Nicholson appears back on course following a period of illness and, after two months of almost uninterrupted training, showed her old spirit with four good swims around her personal best, whilst Freya Beck, who has juggled the demands of GCSE year with her swimming commitment, competed in four events and secured two Finalist/Reserve Finalist places.
Congratulations are extended for the following achievements:
Sam Russell: 5 swims with 4 personal best times and 1 Finalist/Reserve Finalist position.
George Hogg: 4 swims with 1 personal best time achieved.
Carrie Suddes: 1 swim with 1 personal best time achieved.
Ellen Suddes: 4 swims with 2 personal best times and 3 Finalist/Reserve Finalist positions.
Annie Johnston: 4 swims with 3 Finalist positions, best ranking 5th Place.
Katarina Bonner: 7 swims with 5 personal best times and 4 Finalist/Reserve Finalist positions, best ranking 5th.
Eleanor Griffiths: 2 strong swims.
The Club would like to thank Age Group swimmers Neola Thorpe and Genna Suddes who provided great support, representing YCBC in the age 14 – 16 year Women’s relay team in their 3 events, whilst also achieving personal best times. We would also like to wish them good luck in their Age Group NER competition in June.
