Last weekend a contingent of YCBC swimmers made the trip to the National Sports Centre, Crystal Palace to take part in the National Schools Biathlon Championships. National swimmer Genna Suddes, her brother Philip (Regional Squad), along with County squad swimmers Libby Morrison and the youngest of Team Suddes, Zoe, competed in the swim and run competition.
Snow hampered the girls on Saturday with horizontal white stuff making the run extreme, the move indoor to the pool was a welcome relief from the icy conditions. Zoe, 9, marked her debut for Robert Wilkinson Primary Academy (RWPA) with solid run and swim performances to move from 105th to 76th in the overall rankings. Libby, representing The Mount School and competing for the second year, came 55th out of 142 competitors. Libby was 32nd overall in her swim with a PB of 36.56 secs. Genna, in her 9th consecutive outing to the competition, took the crown for fastest swim and combined it with an impressive run to win the U17 category, competing again for Huntington School.
The bad weather continued into Sunday and the boys competition was reduced to a swim, with run times being carried through from qualifying competitions. Phil, 11, also representing RWPA, swam just shy of his pb and improved his position from 80th to 46th. It was great to see the orange hats of the YCBC swimmers at this National competition, hopefully they will all be back again next year.
