On Saturday 13th September, YCBC competitors and supporters gathered excitedly, and took the Team Coach to John Charles Sports Centre, Leeds to participate in the annual White Rose Junior League.
The White Rose Junior League is one of the twelve County Rounds of the National Junior League, an inter-club ‘tournament style’ competition for 9-12 year olds. The winner of each County Round progresses to the Northern/Southern Round. The top four teams from the Northern and Southern Rounds then progress to the National Final.
Carl Cockcroft, Age Group Coach, ably assisted by National Squad members Lucy Nicholson, Ellen Suddes and Matthew Winnell, galvanised the squad of youngsters, sparking camaraderie and enthusiasm which shone throughout their performances.
Amidst the furore of the supporting spectators, cow bells and horns ringing around the pool, the team produced swims that propelled them into a final position of 4th place! Against teams from City of Leeds, Harrogate, Kingston upon Hull, Kirklees, Sheffield A and B, and Harrogate, a truly magnificent achievement!
Recognition and applause therefore go to the 29 swimmers in the YCBC Squad – well done!
